Many people have goals. Maybe they want to hit a certain number – whether it’s a school grade, their dream weight or their company’s profit for next year. No matter what it is, many of us believe, there’s something out there, that we still need to achieve. Why? Because otherwise we can’t be happy.
We can’t enjoy where we are, because we need to be somewhere else. We can’t enjoy what we do, because we should be doing something else. We can’t enjoy who we are, because we need to become someone else.
Being attatched to the future is absurd. Future is just a word, it’s a concept. No one has ever seen it, nor will anyone ever do. Future only exists in our minds.
Instead of thinking about the end, we can embrace the present. Like in music, it’s not about the final note. It’s not about the end of a song. It’s about the experience of listening as long as the music is playing.
So let’s sing as loud as we can and dance to the music, for it will all be over soon.
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming …. WOW what a ride.” ― Mark Frost
